The Senkaku (Diaoyuj Islands

The Senkaku Islands are part of the Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa, Japan. They are located at the south end of Japan. Recently, there is a problem that China insists the islands are Chinese territory. After a 1968 study by experts discovered that oil reserves might be found under the sea near the Senkaku Islands, China suddenly began to dispute that the islands are of their own, calling the islands the Diaoyu Islands.

Before that, however, China had expressed that the Senkaku Islands were Japanese territory. In the People's Daily (Renmin Ribao), which is the newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party and the official view of the Chinese government, China had expressed that the Senkaku Islands were Japanese territory. For instance, in the article of January 8, 1953, issue of the People's Daily, which explained about the Japanese Ryukyu Islands, it is mentioned that the Ryukyu Islands consist of 7 different groups of islands, and named gthe Senkaku Islandsh

The People's Daily (Jan. 8, 1953) in China
explains that the Senkaku Islands are Japanese territory.

Recently, an influential Chinese business man sent his message on his twitter, reffering to the People's Daily, that decades ago the Chinese government had considered that the Senkaku Islands were Japanese territory. He said that this proved about the lie of the Chinese government.

The Senkaku Islands are now uninhabited, but during 1900-1940, about 200 Japanese workers had lived there. One day, a Chinese ship wrecked nearby, and the Japanese people of the Senkaku Islands saved the Chinese crews. After that, the Chinese people sent a letter of thanks to the Japanese people. The letter was addressed to
gDear people of the Senkaku Islands, Okinawa, Japan.h This letter is still existent and was introduced in a Japanese TV program recently.

The Senkaku Islands have never been practically ruled by China throughout history. In 1895, Japan formally announced that the Senkaku Islands belong to Japan. Japan let China know of this, but there was no dispute from China. China had written in the Peoplefs Daily about the Senkaku Islands as belonging to Japan. But in 1968, finding that there are abundant natural resources around the Senkaku Islands, China coveted them and suddenly insisted that the islands are their territory.

The Chinese government repeated the lie to their people, and planted them anti-Japanese feeling. China has ever repeated this kind of selfish act in their history. The attitude is not suitable for a member of the international community.
